The Steering Committee was attended by Delegation of the European Union to Turkey representative Mr. Özgür Öcal; Mr. Enver Yalcın of Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology IPA Unit Contracting Manager, Assistant Secretary General of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mr. Mustafa Yurt, Secretary General of Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Süleyman Karabük, Operation Coordination Unit Director (OCUD) Mr. Abdullah Gökbilgin, Vladimir Babamov Team Leader of Constructional Work Supervision, and Technical Assistance Team Leader Denis Dunn.
Samsun Municipality Assistant Secretary General Mr. Mustafa Yurt welcomed participants. He emphasized that SLC was an important project not only for Samsun, but also for the Black Sea region and even world-wide. ‘President Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz, Governor İbrahim Şahin and I visit the site occasionally to assess physical progress. There is indeed a lot of hard work and commitment to this construction project by all parties’ stated Mr. Yurt.
Mr. Yurt said the railway connection is a vital component that can add real value to SLC as well as making it unique and attractive to industrialists and traders. Yurt reported that efforts to install a 6km-long rail line were on going at full-speed. He also added that they would stay in touch with TCDD at highest level to expedite this matter.
SLC Technical Assistance Team Key Expert İrfan Erdim made a presentation on the SLC-MC business plan as well as general progress of the TAT project, whereas the SLC Construction Works and Procurement Team Leader Mr. Vladimir Babamov briefed the steering committee on the current status of construction and supplies.
Irfan Erdim mentioned that 19 of 50 planned deliverables have been submitted to date, in compliance with the work plan, and 18 ad-hoc documents were generated. Babamov stated that 70% of construction works have so far been achieved.
